ÉLAN

eh-LAN -- (n.) Full of spirit, vigorous enthusiasm, and stylish confidence.

Quite possibly one of the more beautiful words we've stolen from the French (and that is saying a lot), "Élan" not only possesses a natural euphony--beauty in its sound--but its meaning combines the rarest of spirits; one that we recognize the moment we see it in others. Spirit--coming from some natural love of life and all it beholds. Enthusiasm--blooming from the rains of all that is possible. Confidence--exuding not with bombast but with style... Few people today carry themselves with élan. One can be born with vigorous spirit and enthusiasm for life, but stylish confidence is something that one grows into, something one becomes. In that, there is hope for all -- this beautiful quality of being is a mindset, a way of looking at life and giving back to it. Élan is a state of being to be attained by those who choose and exuded by those who dare.
